Lulu and Emma's Story
In October of 2015, this spunky and shy girl came into the animal shelter. I immediately fell in love, but unfortunately was not able to take her home due to having a dog at home that was dominant and aggressive towards other dogs. Instead, I was going to do all that I could to make sure she went home to the best family possible.
Not soon after, a questionable family came in and saw her and adopted her right after. I was heartbroken because I had to let her go not knowing if I would ever see her again. I remember telling my mom if she was to ever come back, she would be mine guaranteed, and she agreed thinking nothing would come of it.
On January 5th, 2017, I was told there was a female pit bull in the back that was surrendered and terrified and needed some socializing, so I went to check it out. I opened the door and looked at her, telling myself I had seen her before. A moment later it clicked in my head and I said, "Lulu?" and as soon as I did, she stopped shaking and started wagging the hardest I've ever seen her wag. I climbed into the kennel with her and just started crying, not able to believe she came back.
Of course, I was sad she was back, but at the same time, I was overjoyed after learning what she had been through in that home.
I remember begging my mom that whole week to do a meet and greet with our dog Macy and Lulu just to see how it would go and she eventually agreed. They were indifferent to each other and we decided to foster to adopt to see how she settled in.
On February 3 of 2017, I "foster failed" and adopted Lulu. It was difficult for her to settle in at first due to timidness and separation anxiety, but soon after she adjusted perfectly and has been my companion ever since.
Lulu is now 3 years old and at the happiest and healthiest weight, she could possibly be. She is my best friend and the best decision I have ever made.
